LICATA BRINGS HOME THIRD IN NASCAR MODIFIEDS AT ROSEVILLE
LAKE
BALBOA, CALIF. (July 25, 2011)
– Joey Licata, Jr. made the most of his first start in the NASCAR
Modifieds in 2011, bringing the #7 Royal Purple Modified to a third
place finish at All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif. Licata,
a member of Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle, had been out of a race car
since April when he made a pair of starts for Cunningham Motorsports
in the ARCA Racing Series.
Ron Sutton’s
Winner’s Circle is a nationally-renowned driver development program
that prepares racers for a career in motorsports. Licata joined the
team in 2009 before winning back-to-back ASA Truck Series
championships. The ASA championships brought Licata much attention
and landed him in ARCA for the Daytona and Talladega races this
spring.
Licata’s sixth
place performance at Daytona brought the rookie many accolades but
the 19 year-old is still looking for sponsorship to continue his
ARCA career. With a long-break, Licata debuted new sponsor Royal
Purple at the highly competitive All American Speedway.
Licata
qualified eighth out of the 13 car field and started eighth in the
40 lap feature on the one-third mile asphalt oval. Licata passed
rookie teammate Steve Cote on the opening lap and continued to move
forward carefully. By lap 12, Licata was up to fourth challenging
teammate Bobby Runyan, Jr.
After a long
battle, Licata finally got the best of Runyan on lap 31 to take the
third position. The patient effort by Licata paid off and allowed
him to defend third place from another competitor to the finish
line.
“The
crew worked really hard and this finish is a tribute to them,”
Licata said. “We made a huge turnaround from the heat race to the
main event and ran pretty well. The cars at Roseville are really
close together but everyone races hard and clean!”
Details of Joey’s next race will be available
on his website
www.joeylicata.com when available.
Potential sponsors can contact Joey through that website for details
on how to join his driver development program.
“Joey
displayed some of his new skills from racing at a national level,
using great patience while battling with Bobby,” Driver Coach Ron
Sutton said. “Joey definitely deserves another shot in the ARCA
Racing Series and we are working hard to find him the sponsorship he
needs.”
