BACK TO VICTORY LANE FOR LICATA IN ASA TRUCK SERIES
LAKE
BALBOA,
CALIF. (MAY 28, 2010)
–2009 ASA TRUCK SERIES champion Joey Licata, Jr., 18, took home his
first win of the 2010 season Saturday night at Toyota Speedway in
Irwindale, Calif.
Licata entered
the event with a pair of second place finishes so far in the ASA
TRUCK SERIES while splitting time between Trucks and driving in
NASCAR Late Models for Tim Huddleson’s High Point Racing.
The Ron Sutton’s
Winner’s Circle driver development team member drove the #71 United
Nissan / Justice Brothers Chevrolet Colorado on Saturday to victory
around after taking the lead on lap 60.
Licata qualified
second with a lap time of 19.90 seconds around the half-mile oval
and started eighth in the main event after the invert. After moving
into second by lap five, Licata began to bide his time through
lapped traffic.
Finally, Licata
had the opportunity to take the lead, going three-wide with the
leader and a lapped truck. Unfortunately, the caution came out as
Licata was taking over the point.
On the restart,
Licata left little doubt who the fastest truck of the day was and he
took off from the field.
Another caution
on lap 62 bunched the field up, and Licata picked the outside on the
restart to maintain his lead. He held the lead position all the way
to the finish of the 75 lap event and built a lead of more than 10
truck lengths.
“I'd
like to thank the United Racing crew: Lea Keach,
Greg Knight, Carey Means, Kendal
Anderson and Jordan Hyland, for
their hard work,” Licata said. “I'd also like to thank Ron Sutton’s
Winner’s Circle for their continued support.”
Licata will
return to action this weekend with a pair of 40 lap features
scheduled for the NASCAR Late Model division at Toyota Speedway.
Licata will be going after his first top-five finish in the division
after a strong start to the 2010 season.
“Joey continues
to fill his trophy case with race wins,” driver coach Ron Sutton
said. “It is only a matter of time before Joey adds a stockcar win
to his already impressive resume. Joey is proving to be the real
deal!”
